Planning your new kitchen...

We’re not asking you to plan your own kitchen, but before we can get started there are a few questions we need to ask; after all, every one of our customers has different needs and all our kitchens are designed to suit the individual requirements.

No doubt you’ll already have an idea of style – traditional, classic or contemporary – but then we need to start talking about work spaces, appliances and taking into account any features of your room which may dictate the final layout.

You may have your heart set on a large range-style cooker, but have you considered having your oven at eye level – having your oven at a convenient height is becoming increasingly more popular.

Then there’s gas or electric hobs, or how about a new state of the art induction hob? Think about the kind of cooking you enjoy: if you regularly use a wok then a hob with a wok burner is essential.

Under counter fridges are compact and discreet but if there is a full family to feed then perhaps a large American-style fridge freezer would be a better option.

How about the dirty work? Do you require a dishwasher to be incorporated, or do you have a husband who’ll take care of the pots and pans?

Some homes have a utility room for washing machines and tumble dryers but, if not, then we need to think how these can be incorporated as seamlessly as possible into the kitchen space you have available.

Is your kitchen also your dining room? For some, a cup of tea and a slice of toast is the only eating done in the kitchen, for others it is the heart of the home where the whole family sit down to eat together.

So, as you can see, quite a lot to think about before we even start to design your new kitchen.

To help you start, we’ve created a quick checklist and planning sheet for you to download and print so you can make a start yourself.
